Ground-level monuments and taller pylons mark an entrance before a visitor reaches the door. We design and fabricate these site signs for retail, offices, campuses, and multi-tenant properties around Columbus.
A monument sits low and readable from the drive; a pylon carries the same brand higher for corridor or highway visibility. We size cabinets, faces, and lighting to the site, then fabricate in-house rather than assembling a catalog kit that does not match the architecture.
These signs almost always involve a footing, local height and setback rules, and sometimes illumination. Installation and permitting are part of how we quote the job — not an afterthought once the cabinet is already built.

How a monument or pylon job works

Survey
We look at the drive, the setback, and any existing footing or cabinet. Photos from the road and the lot are enough to start. A logo file alone does not describe the site.

Proof
The first drawing is an elevation for you and, when the property requires it, for the landlord or building committee. Height and copy are shown against the approach, not as a catalog kit.

Fabricate
Cabinets, faces, and lighting are built in-house to that drawing. A shared monument gets tenant panels sized to the cabinet that is staying.

Install
A monument needs a footing and a check of setbacks. Illuminated cabinets need an electrical hookup. Permitting stays on this path when the jurisdiction requires a filing.

Lit or non-lit
An illuminated cabinet reads after dusk. A non-illuminated face can work where existing lighting already washes the sign, and it can avoid an electrical inspection. Illuminated ground signs in the City of Columbus are in permit territory.

Single-tenant or multi-tenant
One name on the cabinet, or a shared monument with a panel for each tenant. Replacing only a panel is a different quote from building a new cabinet.

Monument and pylon questions
- What is the difference between a monument and a pylon?
- A monument is a low ground sign meant to be read from the drive or the lot. A pylon is taller so it can be seen from a corridor or a longer approach. Both identify the site. The setback and the local height limit usually decide which one we quote.
- Can you replace only our panel on a shared monument?
- Yes, when the cabinet is staying and the criteria allow a tenant change. Send a photo of the monument and the page that shows panel size. If the cabinet itself has failed, that is a different quote.
- Do monument signs need a Columbus permit?
- In the City of Columbus, a new ground sign typically needs a graphics permit, and an illuminated cabinet is electrical work as well. Height and setback are part of that review. Suburbs and townships file separately. See the Columbus sign permit decoder. We do not publish fees or review times.
- Do you drop in a catalog monument kit?
- No. We size the cabinet, the faces, and the lighting to the site and the architecture. A catalog kit that does not match the setback or the building is the wrong starting point.
