Sign installation and permitting
A sign is not finished in the shop. Artiplex installs channel letters, monuments, pylons, and interior systems across Central Ohio, and we coordinate the permits those jobs usually require.
Exterior work may need a city or township permit, engineered drawings on larger structures, and an electrical inspection for illuminated signs. We build that into the quote instead of handing you a cabinet and a list of agencies to call.
The same crew that understands how the sign was built handles the install — survey, mounting, electrical hookup when needed, and a clean site when we leave. Maintenance and repair of existing signs is available when faces, LEDs, or hardware fail.

How installation and permitting work

Survey
A site visit or a set of photos and the address. We confirm the wall or the footing, the electrical path when the sign is lit, and which city or township actually reviews the parcel.

Proof
The install drawing matches the permitted design. You see that layout before the cabinet leaves the shop.

Fabricate
Letters, cabinets, and interior sets are built in-house to that drawing. We do not hand you a finished sign and a list of agencies.

Install
The crew mounts the sign, hooks up power when it is illuminated, and leaves the site clean. Later service is available when a face or a section of LEDs fails.

Channel letters, raceways, wall cabinets, monuments, and pylons. Illuminated signs include the electrical hookup in the install path.

Interior systems
Room identification, directories, and lobby pieces. Those are not the exterior graphics permit, and they can go in while an exterior filing is still in review, once the copy is final.

Permit coordination
We prepare drawings and coordinate the graphics permit — and historic review when the address requires it. Approval is still the city’s or the township’s decision.

Installation and permitting questions
- Will Artiplex pull the permit?
- Yes, permit coordination is part of how we quote installation. In the City of Columbus, graphics permits are generally pulled by a sign erector licensed with the city. The city, township, or historic commission still decides whether to approve the sign. We do not guarantee a permit.
- When does a sign need a Columbus permit?
- Illuminated permanent exterior signs, signs that reach into the right-of-way, and larger non-illuminated signs typically do inside the City of Columbus. Face replacements are not automatically exempt. See the Columbus sign permit decoder for the city’s published triggers. We do not publish fees or review times.
- Do suburbs use the same permit rules?
- No. Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard, and the rest of Central Ohio each file separately. A Columbus mailing address is not always the City of Columbus. We confirm the jurisdiction from the job address.
- Can you install a sign someone else built?
- Sometimes, after a survey. We need to see how it was built and whether the wall or the footing can take it. We will say so if we cannot stand behind the install.
- How do we request an install quote?
